The barracks and modernity
Yesterday I attended the book launch “Barraquisme, the ciutat (in the)possible”, in the magnificent Juan Marse library Hand Luke Carmel neighborhood of the Barcelona.
The sleek horizontal barracks Olympic city is finished wipe the years 90, two days ago, to speak. It erased the physical map of the city but also erased the mental map of the new Barcelona that appeals to hide the misery under the carpet and so I do not believe there. It is now, certainly, wants to eliminate prostitution from the streets. Read it: of the streets. Wants to make prostitution invisible, even.
The event yesterday was not academic. The book launch was the excuse they came together, on a bright spring morning, a group of people to tell stories of life. Bad but real life. To remember that the 7% of this city rose in a self-managed, against the powers they needed to work the mob but they did not want them ensuciase same mob the streets with his ruinous presence.
In that room yesterday showed why the power does not like assemblies. In each hand he lifted the audience showed what happens when people lose their fear review, learn to tell their own story and find that all experiences are valuable.
The big trick is to divide power. Only one thing worse than a person who refuses to be swept under the carpet: a person who learns from the evils of others. The Carmel and neighboring houses have turned into mud and are now struggling to start his memory from oblivion official. But everything is explained happening today. No longer in Andalusia but Senegalese meat, no longer in barracks built on anti-aircraft batteries but in hot beds and rooms realquiladas. But Barcelona is devouring his sons and daughters.
We have all around us lessons. It only remains to learn and a good cause indigestion in this city (this world) cannibal.
