In recent days I have found two amazing testimonies (creepy) of the former Yugoslavia and the long shadow cast on its existence this.

On the one hand, I leave the magnificent work of photographer Milomir Kovacevic “Tito was” (“Titus in the war”), made during the siege of Sarajevo. In this series, reflects the ubiquitous portraits of Marshal Tito abandoned the stage of the war that dismembered the country that was her baby, swept away many of its inhabitants.

I take the Jewish New Year party (¡Shana Tova a tod @ s!) to retrieve an article published by Miguel G. Lazarus in reference blog Balkanidades. Miguel invites us to visit the Jewish cemetery in Sarajevo and trace the history of the community from the names that we find: Montillo family, the stalk or Pardo.

The Sephardic Jewish community of Sarajevo came refuge from the ethnic cleansing of the Spanish Catholic Kings. He brought all their cultural heritage and its penalty. The famous Sarajevo Haggadah, that has survived both World War II as the siege by the Chetniks, is originally from Barcelona.

The linked dejo here lto the wikipedia entry on the Haggadah (¡En Ladino!) and here Balkan full article.

Happy New Year!

1335: 4 Read the siege of Sarajevo: Dzevad Violence

Written by Brigitte Vasallo. Posted in 1335: the siege of Sarajevo, Balkans, Places, Different materials

From the summer of 1992, (20 years before the time of writing this post) Serb forces were beginning to put in positions that would enable the 1335 days of the siege of Sarajevo (1992-1996).

From within the city, from the district of Marindvor, where the writer speaks Bosnian Dzevad Violence in”Diary of an exodus”. Karahasan watching the siege from an almost scientific philosophy, take it like a lab rat they were, dissects and explains it from a place where pain challenges. The drama of Sarajevo belongs to that city, on the contrary. Sarajevo suffer destruction, but who will suffer the loss the world.
